A 92-year-old house beside the Country Club of Virginia’s Westhampton course led the pack of local high-end home sales in January, edging out other deals that likewise topped the $2 million mark.
The 5,800-square-foot colonial at 6134 Saint Andrews Circle sold Jan. 5 for $2.22 million, below its October list price of $2.6 million. The price was reduced in November to $2.34 million before going under contract a week later.
Jill Davenport and Mary Davenport with The Steele Group | Sotheby’s International Realty had the listing. The sisters-in-law team represented sellers Bradfute Davenport Jr. and Suzanne Davenport, who had owned the house since 1985.
Cherry cabinetry and a center island accentuate the kitchen.
Brad Davenport is retired from Troutman Pepper Locke, where he was a partner and is now a fellow of its Pepper Center for Public Service, according to the downtown law firm’s website. Suzanne Davenport is an author and owner of Smart Projex, a project management consultancy.
Property records list the buyers as George and Kirkland Hagerty. They were represented by Long & Foster’s Eliza Branch and Jane Vick Gill.
Calls to the four agents involved were not returned Thursday.
Totaling six bedrooms, four bathrooms and two half-baths, the house was built in 1934 and expanded in 2001 with an addition designed by local architect Charles Aquino, whose other work has included a restoration of the nearby Tudor Revival mansion at 5103 Cary Street Road.
The 2001 addition included a six-sided primary bedroom with 10 windows.
The addition consisted of a family room with gas fireplace and a first-floor primary suite. The house has two more fireplaces, an office, two lower-level rec rooms, a screened porch and attached one-car garage. The 0.8-acre property also includes a pergola and fire pit.
The city assessed the property this year at $2 million.
The sale closed weeks after another home on Saint Andrews Circle changed hands. Four doors away, the house at 6128 Saint Andrews Circle sold in December for $2.4 million, the fifth-highest home sale in the Richmond area that month.
The property also includes a pergola and fire pit.
Their January sale wasn’t the first that Jill and Mary Davenport have closed in the CCV enclave. In 2023, they sold 6120 Saint Andrews Lane for the family of Huntley and Jean Davenport, Jill’s parents.
Three weeks later, the century-old house across the street – 6124 Saint Andrews Lane – sold for over $4 million, the priciest sale seen in the city in at least a decade.
Rounding out the top five sales for January were, according to the Central Virginia Regional Multiple Listing Service:
